Community Response Volunteering: A Helping Hand for Biscoff
Earlier this year, a local resident contacted us because she was waiting for a knee operation and struggling to walk her much-loved dachshund, Biscoff.
With no family nearby, she had been paying for a dog walking service, but the cost was becoming difficult to manage on her pension.
We shared her request with our Community Response Volunteers, and two people kindly offered to help. They arranged to take turns walking Biscoff, giving him the exercise he needed and his owner some much-needed peace of mind.
What started as a simple request for help soon became a lovely routine. The volunteers now coordinate the walks between themselves, Biscoff has made some new friends, and his owner has been incredibly grateful for their kindness.
This is what Community Response Volunteering is all about – neighbours helping neighbours with everyday tasks when they need a little extra support.
Could you occasionally lend a hand to someone in your local community? We’d love to hear from you.
You don’t need to commit to volunteering every week. Our Community Response Volunteers can choose which requests they’re able to help with, depending on their availability.
