Could You Help Someone in Your Community?
Many people think volunteering means making a big, long-term commitment, but that isn’t always the case. Whether you can help regularly or only from time to time, every contribution is valued and can make a real difference to someone’s life.
If you’ve ever hesitated because you’re worried about the commitment involved, especially with befriending, it’s worth knowing that support can look different for everyone. Some volunteers visit weekly, others fortnightly or monthly, and even occasional contact can help someone feel more connected and less alone.
It’s also important to remember that saying yes to an initial visit or conversation doesn’t mean you’re signing up forever. Circumstances change, and if an opportunity doesn’t feel right for you, that’s absolutely okay. We’ll always work with volunteers to ensure they feel comfortable and supported.
Many of our volunteers tell us that some of their most rewarding experiences started with simply deciding to give it a try. A single visit, phone call or small act of kindness can have a huge impact on someone’s week, helping to build confidence, independence and connection.
The difference made by Community Response Volunteers goes far beyond the numbers we report. Every day, volunteers across Dorset are quietly helping neighbours, building friendships and supporting people to remain connected to their communities. These everyday acts of kindness are what make the volunteer network so special.
If you’ve been considering volunteering, we’d love to hear from you. And if you know someone who might enjoy becoming a Community Response Volunteer, please share the opportunity with them. The more volunteers we have, the more people we can support across Dorset.
