We’ve created a new video celebrating the wonderful Home Library Service and the volunteers who make it possible. Take a look and discover how a simple book delivery can mean so much more to someone who is unable to visit their local library.

For many people, reading is a source of enjoyment, comfort and connection, but getting to a library is not always easy. Home Library Service help ensure that people who are unable to visit their local library can still enjoy a regular supply of books and other materials from the comfort of their own home.

The service is delivered by dedicated volunteers who take the time to get to know each person’s interests, favourite authors and reading preferences. Whether someone enjoys crime novels, biographies, large-print books, audiobooks or something completely different, volunteers carefully select items to suit each individuals tastes. In some areas, the service may also include DVDs, CDs and audiobooks.

More than just delivering books, Home Library Services provide valuable social contact. Volunteers become a friendly, familiar face, offering a regular visit and a chance for a chat. For people who live alone or have limited opportunities to get out and about, these visits can help reduce feelings of loneliness and isolation.

The service also provides reassurance to family members and carers, as volunteers can notice if someone may need additional support and raise concerns through the appropriate channels. This regular contact helps promote wellbeing while enabling people to remain connected to the joy of reading and their local community.

Home Library Services are a wonderful example of how volunteers make a real difference, bringing stories, companionship and a sense of connection to people who need it most.
