Thriving Communities is all about helping people and places across Dorset become stronger, more connected and resilient. By bringing together local residents, voluntary and community organisations, and other partners, we aim to build on the strengths, skills and ideas that already exist within our communities.
We believe that local people are often best placed to understand what their communities need. Through collaboration, community-led initiatives and practical support, Thriving Communities encourages people to get involved, develop new ideas and make positive changes where they live.
At the heart of this work are opportunities to connect people, strengthen local partnerships and support projects that make a meaningful difference. Initiatives such as the Try It. Do It. Grow It. Grant Fund and Dorset Connect help turn these ambitions into action.

The Try It. Do It. Grow It. Grant Fund aims to help local community groups and organisations turn their ideas into positive action. Whether it’s trying something new, developing an existing activity or growing a successful initiative, the fund is designed to encourage community-led projects that respond to local needs.
By supporting grassroots organisations and encouraging collaboration, the fund aims to create more opportunities for people to connect, stay active and feel part of their community. Bringing local organisations together to connect, collaborate and create change.
Dorset Connect brings voluntary and community organisations, local groups and partners together through place-based networks across Dorset. These networks provide welcoming spaces to share ideas, build relationships, learn from one another and explore opportunities to work together.
By encouraging conversations about local needs and priorities, Dorset Connect helps organisations identify opportunities for joint action and make better use of the skills, knowledge and resources available in their communities. Together, we can strengthen local partnerships and create positive, lasting change for the people and places we support.
