Dorset is Changing – Make Sure the VCS Voice is Heard
Decisions about how Dorset develops affect much more than where new homes are built. They influence the communities we live and work in, the infrastructure and facilities people can access, and ultimately the health and wellbeing of local residents.
Dorset Council is preparing a new Local Plan, which will help guide future development across the Dorset Council area, including homes, jobs, infrastructure, community facilities and environmental improvements.
The next stage is a scoping consultation, expected to run from 21 September to 26 October 2026. At this early stage, Dorset Council wants to hear what the Local Plan should cover and how people should be involved in developing it. Organisations and interest groups are specifically among those being invited to contribute.
For VCS organisations, this is an important opportunity. You understand the communities you work with, hear directly about the challenges people experience and often have valuable insight into what local areas need to thrive.
Whether your work involves health and wellbeing, young people, older residents, disability, poverty, the environment, transport, community spaces or another area of local life, your knowledge can help inform Dorset’s future.
Don’t miss the opportunity to have your say. Look out for the consultation opening on 21 September, consider what matters to the communities you support, and make sure the VCS voice is part of the conversation.
