Volunteers give their time, skills and energy to support our communities — but it’s equally important that the people giving their time feel supported too.

We’ve added a new online training module to our learning offer, designed to help organisations feel more confident in recognising and responding to mental health and wellbeing concerns.

Supporting Your Staff Through Mental Health, developed by Virtual College, is a one-hour online, self-paced course covering mental health and wellbeing, recognising signs of common mental health issues, understanding their potential impact and exploring practical ways to promote positive wellbeing.

Although originally designed with staff and workplace settings in mind, much of the learning is equally relevant to anyone responsible for supporting volunteers.

For volunteer coordinators, managers, trustees and others working alongside volunteers, it’s an opportunity to build confidence and think about how your organisation creates an environment where people feel supported, listened to and able to speak up when they are struggling.

The course also encourages you to consider what practical steps you can take within your own organisation and develop an action plan to take forward.
